On the afternoon of September 11, 2026, GOFO partnered with Plastic Whale for a Plastic Fishing activity on Amsterdam’s canals. In the lead-up to World Cleanup Day, 14 GOFO employees and two Plastic Whale team members set out in two boats from Herenmarkt to give back to the local community.
For about 90 minutes, the GOFO team worked together with fishing nets, eager to collect the litter they spotted. Some of the smallest pieces only became visible as the boats moved across the water. Passersby stopped to watch and gave the team a thumbs-up. By the time the boats returned to Herenmarkt, the group had filled four large bags, mainly with plastic bottles, plastic bags, and aluminum cans.
“Seeing Amsterdam from the water gave me a new perspective on the city,” said a GOFO employee. “Working together to clean the canals felt like a meaningful way to give back to the local community.”
“We organize up to three Plastic Fishing trips a day, yet we still collect litter on every trip,” said a Plastic Whale team member. “It shows why these cleanups matter and why we all need to keep waste out of the water.”
The activity is part of GOFO’s ongoing commitment to its ESG goals. Following this year’s Paris Run and Tree Planting activities, Plastic Fishing gave our team another opportunity to contribute to the local community and care for the environment.
